At Till Roll World we believe it’s important to accurately measure your Till Rolls to ensure compatibility with your equipment. Here’s a simple guide to help you measure and choose the right Till Roll for your needs.

Till Roll Codes

When selecting your Till Roll, pay attention to the following codes:

  • TH – Thermal Rolls (These do not require a Ribbon)
  • SP – Single Ply Rolls (these require a Ribbon)
  • 2P – 2 Ply Rolls (these require a Ribbon)
  • 3P – 3 Ply Rolls (these require a Ribbon)

For example, a Thermal Roll with 80mm width and 70mm diameter will have the code TH80-70.

Measuring the Till Roll

  • Width: The width of the Till Roll is crucial for compatibility.
  • Diameter: The diameter of the Roll you select can be less than the roll you currently have. For instance, if your roll measures 80mm x 72mm, an 80mm x 70mm roll will fit without issues.

Understanding the Different Types of Paper

We offer various types of paper for Till Rolls to cater to different printing methods and equipment. Here’s a brief overview:

Thermal Paper

  • Description: Heat-sensitive paper used in machines with a Thermal Print Head.
  • Characteristics: These rolls do not require a Ribbon.

Single Ply Paper

  • Description: Used in Impact (Dot Matrix) printers.
  • Identification: You can identify an Impact Printer by checking if it uses a Ribbon.

2 Ply Paper

  • Description: Also used in Impact (Dot Matrix) printers, producing 2 copies simultaneously.
  • Identification: Similar to Single Ply Paper, a Ribbon is required for printing.

3 Ply Paper

  • Description: Used in Impact (Dot Matrix) printers, producing 3 copies simultaneously.
  • Identification: Like the previous types, these rolls require a Ribbon for printing.

Quick Tip for Differentiating Paper Types

  • Thermal Paper has a smooth, glossy appearance and leaves a mark when scratched. It is also heat sensitive and there is only one copy of the receipt.
  • Single Ply Paper has a matte appearance, feels like regular A4 Printer paper, and does not leave a mark when scratched. It is printed using a ribbon or roller and there is one copy of the receipt.
  • Multiple Ply Paper (2 or 3 ply) also has a matte appearance, and it involves the use of a ribbon or roller for the top copy, while the impact of the print head creates the 2nd and 3rd copies through the top copy.  You can determine whether the equipment you are using is an Impact Printer by checking if it utilizes a Ribbon for printing.
